Evelyn Abbot has been married to Jasper Williams for three years, but their anniversary reveals how little attention he gives her. His concern centers on Ruby, Evelyn’s sister, while Jasper’s mother, Sarah, openly mocks the woman she dislikes. In this household, Evelyn’s feelings and place in the family are repeatedly pushed aside. When Evelyn’s health suddenly worsens and she ends up in the hospital, a diagnosis of terminal cancer makes her reconsider how she will spend her remaining time. Believing she has nothing left to lose, she decides to stop accepting neglect and humiliation. Her new resolve brings her into conflict with Jasper’s misplaced loyalties, Sarah’s hostility, and Ruby’s favored position, placing the troubled marriage under intense pressure as Evelyn begins to reclaim control of her life.
