At Hermon's Forge, Pyrrhos has spent years producing runeblades while being dismissed as “Emberless,” unable to sense forge fire like a proper smith. When Assessment Day brings Deryk acclaim for Firstlight, Pyrrhos recognizes his own design beneath his senior brother’s name. Asking for his wages only earns him ten rusted scraps and a final break from the guild that used his work. Then a gold flame stirs in the abandoned furnace, suggesting Pyrrhos's apparent weakness hides something far more powerful. With a girl bearing a broken family sword, a landlord’s back room, and a wartime order before him, he attempts to establish a forge from nothing. His path toward recognition collides with the legacy of Hephaestus, a father lost protecting the Godslayer plans, and an order seeking seven scattered fragments. Delphi may have a destiny prepared, but Pyrrhos intends to shape his own.
