Valerie Patterson has been treated as an unwanted member of her family since birth, with her mother disapproving of the birthmark she considers ugly. Working as a waitress, Valerie encounters Andrew Hills, a billionaire who has been drugged and is struggling in a swimming pool. When she dives in to save him, Andrew pulls her close, and their rescue quickly becomes an intimate encounter that changes both their lives. Andrew’s immediate connection with Valerie opens the possibility of a life far removed from the neglect she has known. Yet the Patterson family is close to replacing Valerie with her sister, Daphne, creating a dangerous identity conflict around Andrew’s future wife. As romance collides with family manipulation, Valerie must face the consequences of being overlooked, misidentified, and drawn into Andrew Hills’ world.
