In 1911, rural English teacher Evelyn Hart crosses the Atlantic, leaving everything behind to reunite with her fiancé, Thomas, in New York. Her journey takes an unexpected turn when she injures Julian Kane, a wounded and mysterious man who holds her at gunpoint and demands a kiss. Despite the danger, Evelyn saves his life before continuing to the city. When Thomas’s betrayal leaves Evelyn without the future she expected, Julian offers an unexpected way forward: a marriage of convenience. He is secretly the heir to the powerful Kane family empire, but keeps his identity concealed. As Evelyn adjusts to married life, tensions at work and hostility from an old rival test the couple, while their practical arrangement gradually develops into genuine affection.
