Grace sends Liya, her silent half-sister, to marry Naz, the Dragon God, as a substitute for herself. A blood bond soon connects Liya and Naz, but Grace responds by sending assassins after her. Liya survives a fall from a cliff and takes shelter in a monastery, where she secretly gives birth to twins. For seven years, she keeps her children hidden from the danger surrounding her. When Grace learns Liya is still alive, she seizes Liya’s family and subjects her to torture. Naz feels their broken bond and comes to their rescue in his black-dragon form. Later, in Dragonflame City, Grace accuses Liya of tainting the royal line, placing Liya and her children at the center of a dangerous struggle over blood, legitimacy, and power.
