Evelyn, the Dragon Queen, learns that her consort Cyril and handmaid Cecilia, both serpent-shifters, replaced her newborn with their own son. She hides the truth and secretly raises her real daughter, Ann, to become queen of a northern empire. For twenty years, Evelyn endures in silence, then abdicates and is exiled. When Ann marries the impostor prince, Evelyn's long-prepared trap closes. Identities come to light, the betrayers face economic ruin, and Millennium Dragon Aurelius arrives as Ann's true father. As the serpent-shifters lose everything, Evelyn finally reunites with her family.
